eperi presents new Cloud backup solution for end devices

Pfungstadt, June 15, 2023 - The specialist for data security in the cloud is expanding its solution portfolio into the area of data backup. eperi is now offering a backup solution for OneDrive. The data backup solution integrated into the Microsoft Windows operating system works on the basis of the highly secure eperi Gateway and encrypts all OneDrive backups and stores them in the cloud.
With this new solution from eperi, companies have the option of using the OneDrive (for Business) cloud storage available in Microsoft 365 as a backup destination while meeting all data security and compliance requirements. Automated backups of all devices in the company are ensured on the basis of OneDrive so that a restore can be carried out quickly, easily and cost-effectively in the event of data loss. The eperi solution is particularly suitable for

companies whose employees work remotely or in home offices. Until now, backing up their devices could only be done securely and reliably using traditional backup solutions, which involved a great deal of technical and budgetary effort. The core of the solution is the tried-and-tested eperi Gateway, which acts as a proxy in the data stream and encrypts the contents of the data. This means that plain text backup data is never available outside the trusted environment. Furthermore, with the eperi solution, companies adhere to the 3-2-1 principle for data backup: one of three backup copies is securely stored externally in the cloud, where Microsoft also stores the data redundantly. Another advantage of the eperi backup/restore solution is that the encryption remains completely unnoticed by users and at the same time all search functions for the encrypted backup data are retained.

The advantages of the solution for companies are as follows:

• Costs: 1 TB of storage space for OneDrive for Business is available per user end in M365 Business licenses. No additional investment in hardware or storage is required. At the same time, the license costs for the eperi Gateway are significantly lower than for typical backup software; savings of up to 60 percent are possible.
• Scalability: The licenses for M365 and the eperi Gateway can be flexibly expanded and adapted to the company's needs almost at will.
• Automatic data backup in real time: As long as the device is connected to the Internet, any changes are synchronized in real time, without schedules or manual intervention, so that the backup is always up to date. After any offline phase, the backups are performed automatically.
• Location-independent: The backup, including encryption by the eperi Gateway, can be carried out at any time and from anywhere
• Versioning: The eperi backup solution backs up any changes to files to OneDrive in real time. Thanks to the versioning integrated in OneDrive, narrowly defined recovery point objectives (RPO) can be realized, which is particularly useful for ransomware protection.
• Restoring deleted files: Even deleted files are not lost in OneDrive for Business. Deleted files are stored in the virtual recycle bin for 93 days and can be restored at any time.

The new stand-alone backup function for OneDrive with the eperi Gateway is the logical extension of the holistic eperi data protection solutions for M365 in the cloud. The eperi Gateway already offers the option of highly secure encryption of all company data in and for the cloud - including backups such as OneDrive. The essential added value of this simple new solution is that it addresses a critical need for companies, which has increased massively in terms of data protection, not least since the enormous popularity of home offices.
