Sprinkenhof GmbH planned to implement a cloud-based collaboration platform based on Microsoft 365 to modernize cooperation for organizations such as the police, fire departments, and the judiciary. From the outset, it was clear: the data processed in this environment is highly sensitive and must under no circumstances be stored unencrypted in the cloud.
The central challenge: With standard Microsoft solutions, Microsoft retains control over the encryption keys – an exclusion criterion for use in a security-critical environment. At the same time, regulatory requirements such as GDPR and technical requirements like the separation of key and data storage had to be met.
