About eperi

eperi GmbH has been around since 2014 and has become a leading IT security provider during that time. The German company has already won multiple awards, including the IBM Beacon Award, the Microsoft Partner of the Year Award, and the TechXLR8 Award in the Best Cloud Security Platform category. Forbes also named it as one of the Top10 Cybersecurity Companies of 2019.

With its high level of expertise in data encryption for cloud applications, eperi holds several international patents for its innovative technology that provides matchless data protection for SaaS applications, databases, custom applications and file storage solutions. The eperi solutions use encryption and tokenization, which enable some of the world’s largest enterprises to leverage all the benefits of the cloud. All eperi Cloud Data Protection Solutions are based on the eperi Gateway, which has secRT (Security RunTime – an Open Source Security Framework) as its foundation. This was developed in close collaboration with Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security, which also tested it. eperi is managed by its founder and CEO, Elmar Eperiesi-Beck, who also holds most of the shares. The Swiss investor network b-to-v has held shares in the company since 2014 and Evolution Equity Partners (the former founders of AVG) since 2016.

eperi works closely with multiple well-known technology partners. Several hundred customers, including Deutsche Bank, Germany’s Federal Network Agency, and Evonik Industries AG use the eperi Gateway. The innovative technology is used by over 16 million people in total. The company has been a member of multiple initiatives in Germany for many years. These include “IT Security Made in Germany” from TeleTrust; the IT Competence Center CAST e. V.; the Software Cluster Network; and the Federal Office for Information Security’s Alliance for Cyber Security, of which eperi is a founding member.

eperi is also involved in youth development – especially in sport. It has been a sponsor of the F2 Juniors team at the SV Weiterstadt football club since 2017.

Future-proof encryption with eperi

For its research work, eperi frequently works with leading cryptographers and world-renowned scientists. For example, together with Deutsche Telekom and the Technical University of Darmstadt, it co-developed post-quantum crypto-algorithms whose encryption is even secure against quantum computers. These future-proof algorithms have been integrated into the eperi Gateway, which was the first commercially-available solution in the world to include them.

Our founder

Elmar Eperiesi-Beck’s career in IT security began in the 90s when he and his colleagues informed banks that the PIN number on EC debit cards could be deciphered from the code on the magnetic strip because the data wasn’t encrypted. Later, he embarked on a successful career at IBM managing global IT projects that changed the way companies do business today. He founded his first company in 2003 and used consulting projects to make his vision a reality: a security framework based on the most secure open source encryption standards.

He likes spending his spare time with his family, enjoying good food and drink, and programming together with his friends. He’s also a firm believer in the power of open source – and Microsoft named his company Partner of the Year in the open source category.
